For the Coffee Lovers
Affogato means ” drowned” in Italian. This dessert is the epitome of sweetness with vanilla ice cream being drowned in espresso. Adding a shot of liqueur can also take this coffee-based dessert to another level. The presentation in and of itself is enough reason to have a glass of affogato Watching the hot coffee pour over the ice cream as it melts over time and blends the coffee, cream, and sugar into one cohesive drink. How can something so simple be so delicious? If you haven’t tried an affogato in your lifetime, I assure you now is the perfect time.
Traditionally, Affogato is served as is. However, who would I be if I didn’t something on top. A simple topping is the classic caramel syrup drizzle and ground cinnamon. I went all out once and made a S’mores Affogato. I fired roasted some marshmallows and crushed some Biscoff cookies and topped off my Affogato. It tasted like a dream and highly recommend checking out how I made it here. Keep it simple or add all the toppings you’d like to satisfy your taste buds. Chocolate drizzle, nutmeg, whipped cream, your coffee cup is yours to decorate with flavor. Grab your favorite espresso ground and you best quality vanilla ice cream or gelato, and let’s get right into it.
